About us

We provide a range of services to support people affected by dementia here in Taranaki.

  • Navigation Services

We have 4 x part-time experienced Community Advisors who provide support to people in the community. They can provide home visits, information, support and advocacy to both people living with dementia and their carers/care partners and families/whanau.

Community Advisors also facilitate Carer Support Groups and Alz Cafe Social groups around the region.

  • Day Respite Programmes

Alzheimers Taranaki also facilitate Day Programmes for people with dementia in both New Plymouth and Hawera.

The Day Programmes or ‘clubs’ provide social and cognitive stimulation, entertainment and activities for people in the early to moderate stages of dementia; whilst also providing  respite for the care partners, carers and family/whanau.

  • Education Services

Our Community Educator is here to provide education, up-to-date information and to promote dementia awareness to aid our goal of a Dementia Friendly Taranaki.

We can visit your workplace, business or organisation to do a presentation and sign you up to become Dementia Friends.  We can facilitate bespoke education/presentations to meet your needs.

We also run post-diagnostic education courses for people who are newly diagnosed and 1 day trainings for people working in the dementia field.

We are currently saving towards building our own premises from which to run all our North Taranaki services and office administration. Once completed, this facility will be a dementia friendly and accessible one stop shop for dementia advice and support.  Our build has just started (Winter 2022) and we are seeking sponsors and donations for our ‘wishlist’, we will also need willing helpers for a working bee nearer the completion time in Summer 2022/23. If you are keen to help or donate, please email Helen on manager.taranaki@alzheimers.org.nz.

Give in memory of a loved one

Give in memory of a loved one

A donation made as a gift ‘in memory of’, is a lovely way to honour and celebrate someone’s life, while helping us to support people living with dementia. You may want to ask for donations to Alzheimers Taranaki in lieu of flowers at a funeral.

Volunteers Wanted

Volunteers Wanted

Do you enjoy working with people? Do you have some free time? Would you like to support people with dementia to have fun and socialise?

We are always on the lookout for honest, reliable and friendly folk who want to give something back to their community and volunteer at our Day Programmes for people living with dementia. Volunteers are an essential part of our team, working alongside the Day Programme staff to meet the needs of the club members and ensure the safe and smooth running of the Day Programme.

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, please call Muffy Whitmore (NP Club Co-ordinator) on 027 387 6002 or Lynette Gopperth (Hawera Club Co-ordinator) on 027 555 1806.

Please note, all volunteers are required to undergo a police check to ensure their suitability to work with vulnerable adults.
