Talk to your MP

Here are some things to consider when talking to politicians.

Know why
Be clear why you want to meet with them.

Make the request via phone or email
Information on contacting and addressing current New Zealand politicians can be found on the NZ Parliament website.

When you visit

  • Respect time – they are busy
  • Introduce yourself and tell them why you have come
  • Give them no more than 3 essential messages
  • Use opportunities for discussion and questions
  • Offer to be a resource if they have questions in the future
  • Keep to time
  • Thank them

After the meeting
Write a thank you note/email.
Consider including further supportive information in the note of thanks.
