Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa!
We provide free services for all people affected by dementia throughout Northland; from Te Hana in the South, to Te Kao in the Far North. Our main centre is in Whangarei, but there are also office bases in Kaitaia and Kerikeri.
More about us -
Our services include Home Visits, Rural Day Centre, Support Groups and Seminars. Please contact the Society for further information on support services available. All contact will be kept strictly confidential. We have offices in Whangarei, Kerikeri and Kaitaia.
We have four Community Advisors. Two of them work in the Far North, Ria Leef-Smith who covers the area from Cape Reinga to Kawakawa and the Hokianga, and Lizzi Hulbert who covers the area from Kawakawa to Kaeo and from Kaikohe to Paihia. We have two in the Whangarei area, Rod Coe who covers the Whangarei area and South, and Anne Wilson who covers Whangarei north to Paihia and Kaipara District. We also have A Social Worker Robyn Barr who covers the area from Te Hana to Dargaville and north to Hikurangi.
Rural Mobile Day Care
The Alzheimers Society Northland realised that people living in rural areas did not have the resource of a Day Care facility available to them. The Society has staff who provide supervision and activities to people with dementia.
'Alz Club' provides a "fun day out" for the person with dementia and a "day off" for the Caregiver.
Please contact our Community Advisors for details on referring to this service. Click here
Carer Education Seminars
Alzheimers Society Northland Carer Education Seminars are designed to give the Home Carer an understanding of dementia, some of the problems they may encounter and ways of coping with them and the many changes they and their loved one may be experiencing.
Please contact the office for details of when the next Seminar will be held in your area.

We run nine sessions of day care (Alz Club) each week for people with dementia in Whangarei (five days per week), Dargaville (one day per week), Waipu (two days per week) and Paihia ( one day per week). These are highly enjoyable days for our clients, we have a maximum of twelve attending, offering a wide range of activities and outings.
Community support workers
In addition to the day centre programme, we also have a team of community support workers who care for the family, whanau and carers of people with dementia.
