The Trustees of the Alzheimers New Zealand Charitable Trust wish to announce that following careful due diligence we have agreed to be the Foundation Sponsor for the establishment of a network of Dementia Research Clinics throughout New Zealand.
These clinics will investigate and trial novel treatments for Alzheimer’s patients in the very early stages of the disease. The purpose is to trial different treatment options on well characterised clinical populations which could slow down the onset and/or progression of the disease.
The first clinic will be in Auckland through Centre of Brain Research where systems and research programmes will be trialled and established as a template to guide the establishment of future clinics in Dunedin, Christchurch, Hamilton and Wellington.
By looking at novel methods to extend the life of people with Alzheimer’s disease this net work of national dementia research clinics have the potential to change the whole attitude of the clinicians and politicians to the future challenge of Alzheimer’s disease in New Zealand
The Alzheimers New Zealand Charitable Trust’s foundation sponsorship has been seen as the “stamp of approval” and has already served to attract additional funding for the Dementia Research clinics from other sources ie. CoRE funding as well as individual Trust funding.
This sponsorship would not have been possible without the support of our past and present donors. We sincerely thank you all for your valuable contribution to dementia research.
As Trustees we are proud to be instrumental in getting the establishment of this Dementia Research Clinic network off the ground and believe that you will join with us in wishing all involved every success.
